A little about me...
One of the things I enjoy most in life is food. I weighed 164 lbs when I first got married to my ex-husband in June 1999. The following January, I joined weight watchers and lost 34 lbs. I kept the weight off until I got pregnant with my first son, and I weighed 185 lbs when I gave birth. Then I lost the weight again and it crept up to around 150 when I got pregnant with my second son. When I gave birth, I was up to over 200 lbs. I then worked and lost it again. I am currently 125-130 lbs, and I will not lie, it is work but I feel much better than when I am heavier. One of the biggest myths is that you have to "diet" to lose weight. If you "diet" once you go back off the "diet", you will gain what you lost back and probably more. It is a lifestyle change, but your new lifestyle doesn't have to be filled with boring and bland food. I do not do boring or bland, I love food too much.
I have learned several things over the years. Portion control is key. You can eat anything in moderation. I eat some sort of dessert nightly, mostly in the form of ice cream. However, I do not eat the whole pint of Ben & Jerry's in one night. When I first started Weight Watchers, I weighed EVERYTHING. I don't have to do that anymore, because I now know what the portions should look like. Another misconception is that a portion is how much you want to eat of something. It isn't! Learn to read the labels, and read them! I remember spending hours in the grocery store looking for "good" food when I first started Weight Watchers, I don't have to do that any more, either. I don't normally drink my calories. I drink a lot of water and I will indulge in a coke zero every now and then, but soda, even diet soda will make you bloated, so I don't do it often.
Also, I have learned more about what they do to our food since my oldest was diagnosed with Asperger's. Therefore, I try to make as much stuff as I can at home, and buy organic when I can. I can't afford to buy organic as much as I would like so I make more of my food since it saves on money, and tastes A LOT better! I have a bread machine, a yogurt maker, and an ice cream maker. I make bread and yogurt every weekend, and I also make my own granola and granola bars--if you ever make your own, you won't want store bought ever again!
Staying active is also important! I workout 6 days a week, I run 3 days, and do Pilates or yoga the other 3. You do not have to work out for hours in a gym to stay healthy. As a matter of fact, I have never worked out in a gym. I bought my treadmill on Craigslist and I use Jillian's workout DVD's. I only workout 20-30 minutes a day--see, not hours!! I am a full time working mom of 2 boys, so if I can do it, you can too!
The recipes are either mine, from a cookbook, or from my new obsession...Pinterest. I will post them often. I hope you enjoy!
